You also must make your core values actionable. Don’t let there be any confusion about how you should act to honor and uphold a core value. A good exercise is to put the phrase “Therefore, we will…” after each value.
As an example, one of JetBlue’s core values is Passion. Under that core value are 5 action statements:
– Strives to meet the diverse needs of crew members and customers
– Champions team spirit
– Craves and delivers superior performance
– Enjoys overcoming barriers to good service
– Looks for innovative solutions to business issues
If you work for JetBlue there is no confusion about what it means to live out their core value of Passion. You can score yourself long before your bosses do!
