Benefits of Excellence, Brain Health, Lessons from Hitler’s Rise
Hi , –
I hope you’re having a great week.
As a Christian business leader you want to accelerate your growth, profit, and witness in the marketplace (and build a better life!). Our goal is to bring you the best tips, tools, and techniques to do just that!
Let’s get started!
Business
Great Management Matters
The quality of management accounts for 30% of the differences in productivity according to a global study that has surveyed over 11,000 firms in 34 countries – so far. The results mirrors the data on firms following the Baldridge Performance Excellence methodology.
The research shows that a 1 point improvement in a firm’s management score (on a 5 pt scale) results in the following benefits:
71% increase in market share growth
26% higher market capitalization
6% higher productivity
2.3% increase in sales growth
And you can get in on the study. Go here to benchmark your firm.
The survey is a great primer on business excellence. The key areas of focus are:
- Operations Management
- Performance Monitoring
- Target Setting
- Leadership
- Talent Management
These categories and the questions asked within them are quite similar to what you’ll find in the Baldrige Performance Excellence program, the EFQM Excellence Model (Europe’s Baldridge), the McKinsey 7S Framework or what I teach my clients. The basic principles of organizational excellence and the performance benefits have been known for years.
That is great news for you, the business leader. There are no real secrets you need to go uncover. It just requires a lot of hard work and dedication.

7 Steps to Keeping Your Mind as You Age
50% of people age 85 and older will be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. If being diagnosed with Alzheimers is normal for the average 85 year old, I don’t want anything to do with it. Our life spans are rapidly expanding. We are going to need to keep our minds and bodies in great shape to live out all those extra years well!
Dr. Amen puts out 7 tips in this article including brain imaging. Below are my top picks:
- Develop Brain Envy – Ever envied someone with 6 pack abs? You wanted to know how they exercised, what they ate. Try envying a 92 year old with excellent cognitive abilities. Ask the same questions!
- Optimize your Health Numbers – BMI, waist-to-height ratio, sleep hours and baseline screening labs (fasting blood glucose, C-reactive protein, vitamin D, ferritin). Aim for top quartile results. Remember, what being average and 85 years old will get you…
- Decrease Your Alzheimer’s Risk Factors – Some of the most common risk factors include obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, smoking, using drugs or alcohol, sleep apnea, insomnia, and low estrogen, testosterone, or thyroid.
- Get Your Food Right – People who have a healthy-fat-based diet (fish, avocados, nuts) have 42% less risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. People who have a healthy-protein-based diet have 21% less risk. But people who have a simple-carbohydrate-based diet (bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, fruit juice and sugar) have a 400% increased risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease.

How Hitler Rose to Power in a Democratic Country
I am in no way a history buff but saw this and found it to be a great lesson in how fear, intimidation and desperation could lead to the rise of a person like Hitler in a democratic nation. We must learn from history to avoid repeating it. 5.5 minute video. Click image below to watch.
