Published by Curt FowlerYou’ve probably heard Warren Buffett has almost eliminated his holdings in Walmart. He once held $3 billion worth of Walmart stock, but now holds less than $100 million.
But, do you know why and what it might mean to your business? Buffett rarely explains his trades, but here is my take on why he dumped Walmart.
Published by Curt Fowler3 Reasons Every CEO Should Blog
A few weeks ago we talked about how everyone should write to learn, to give, to sell and to be remembered. This week I want to talk about why leaders must write and more specifically have a blog open to the public.
Published by Curt FowlerIt was a great honor to speak at the CAM Leadership Conference last month. I was one of 7 keynote speakers and I was blown away by the quality of the messages shared. All of the messages were done in a "TED Talk" model and deliver a lot in just 15 minutes. You can check them all out at the CAM Leadership Channel. Chris Shelton and his team from EventPoint did an amazing job capturing the videos.
The title of my talk was "The Marketplace is Ministry." The big themes were:
98% of Christians will never enter the ministry as a vocation. They will make a living in the marketplace.
That 98% are in the mission field every day.
75% of Americans do not attend church regularly, but most go to work. In marketing terms, that is a 250M person target market.
3 Steps to revival in the marketplace.

Published by Curt FowlerWhy Write?
I have never been a writer in the past. I was blessed with a good education so I know how to write relatively well, but I had never really written. Kinda like I have always known how to swim, but I had never really swam until I decided to sign up for the IRONMAN and found out I had to swim 2.4 miles in the ocean! That ocean swim put the fear of death in me and took my practice of swimming to new heights.
Similarly, my hope is that the dedicated practice of writing will improve my skills in the way training for the IRONMAN improved my swimming.
But, writing is pain! It takes time and putting things in writing always subjects you to the potential for ridicule of your ideas (or your writing skills). So, why do it? Here are my reasons. Maybe these will inspire or help you find reasons of your own.
Published by Curt Fowler3 Steps to Do Less & Accomplish More
We've already established that true wealth is free time. We also talked about how to create more free time by Spending Less and Making More Money.
Today I want to show you how to create more true wealth by doing less. There are 3 steps:
Published by Curt Fowler3 Steps to More $ in Less Time
Last week we covered how spending less can help us create more free time because the less we spend, the less we have to make and making money takes time!
This week let's talk about making more money. I know it kinda feels dirty just talking about making money, but that is only because the media has stereotyped capitalists as elite Wall Streeters who are manipulating the system to make gobs of money. Well, that depiction is just not accurate for 99.9% of us working to build businesses in America.
Published by Curt Fowler3 Ways to Create More True Wealth
If True Wealth = Free Time, how do we create more of it? Great question. There are many ways to build more true wealth. I've broken them down into 3 big categories: Spend Less, Make More and Do Less.
I hate to start this series with spending less, but - as you'll see in a minute - it is the right place to start. So, how can we spend less and why should we start with spending less on our journey to true wealth.
Published by Curt FowlerWhat is True Wealth?
If you want to be an effective leader at work and at home and if you want to lead yourself well, you need to know your answer to this pivotal question.
Is true wealth a financial number like those bank ads tell us - "What is your number?" Is it a dream house, vacation or boat?
Published by Curt FowlerYou might know this already, but I am a bit of a productivity nut. There is so much that I want to accomplish in this world and it always feels like there is too little time to do it. Maybe becoming a Dad at 40 has helped me understand how little time I am going to have with my little ones in the house. I am compelled to make the most of every day! There is so much I want to accomplish as a father, husband, entrepreneur and Christian. I don’t know about you, but each of the roles I play all seem to be begging for more time!
I’ve already written an eBook on productivity titled “Get 5 Hours Back.” It is a great, short (shouldn’t all productivity books be short?) book that is designed to help you create an extra 5 hours in your life in 1 week. The book and the tools recommended are in our Subscriber Resource Library. You can grab a copy there. That book was written for everybody who wants to accomplish more in less time. Please check it out and let me know what you think. I’d greatly appreciate your comments, questions and suggestions. You can leave them in the comment section of the resource library.
I am now launching a new writing project to build on what I learned writing “Get 5 Hours Back” to build a productivity manual for leaders. I want to help those tasked with leading organizations to lead well, deliver results and to build a life and business that they will be proud of. The working title is “The Effective Leader – A Guide to Building a Successful Life at Work and at Home.”
Published by Curt FowlerWe've had a couple weeks off from our series on how to attract and hire A players. We are wrapping up the series today.
If you have a great workplace, you and your people have been selling the candidate throughout the interview process. You were selling to attract candidates through your career page and your job advertisements. Every person the candidate met was telling them about how great of a workplace you have, selling them on your town, the schools, etc.
Once you know you have the right candidate, the A player that you must have, there are 3 steps to making sure they accept your offer.
