As a Christian business leader you want to accelerate your growth, profit, and witness in the marketplace (and build a better life!). Our goal is to bring you the best tips, tools, and techniques to do just that!
Let’s get started!
Business
Don’t Trust Unanimous Decisions– It is called the Pardox of Unanimity. As results become closer to unanimous the reliability of the results actually decrease. Next time your entire team quickly agrees to a solution expect that decision might be too easy to be true. You can reach consensus but great decisions require testing from opposing views. You should expect and encourage opposition.
For example – under ancient Jewish law, if a suspect on trial was unanimously found guilty by all judges, the suspect was acquitted. It sounds counterintuitive, but the legislators at the time had noticed that unanimous agreement often indicated the presence of a systematic error – even if the exact error could not yet be uncovered.
Another example is the recent Volkswagen scandal. The low emissions were too consistent and too good to be true. Great 4 minute Ted Ed video here. Deeper look at the science at Phys.org.
Vulnerability Based Trust – For teams to make great decisions, which require dissension, there has to be an incredibly high level of trust. Creating this level of trust requires tremendous humility from the team leader. A great way to establish that trust and humility is to have the leader go first in this 3 question exercise.
Health
Immigrants, the Poor and Minorities Gain Sharply Under Affordable Care Act – I think this is what ACA was supposed to do. Very interesting statistics on who is benefiting the most from ACA – it is the poor, as you would expect. It has given healthcare access to many that that never had the option. A lot of this care is going towards preventative screenings. Will that reduce America’s overall cost of healthcare and improve our health scores against other industrialized nations? Yet to be seen. This article is based on data from 2014 – the latest information available at this time. Interesting read, especially in election season.
Life, Fun, Whatever!
Be Your Spouses Best Friend – There is no more important relationship in the world. Your relationship with your spouse affects your effectiveness in every aspect of your life. Here are 3 quick steps from Michael Hyatt:
- Create a list of everything you could possibly want in a best friend. Great ideas in his article.
- Become that for your spouse.
- Keep giving. If your marriage isn’t in a great spot it will take time. Just keep treating your spouse how you want to be treated and they will come around.
Here’s wishing you a great rest of your week!
