Excellent Career Page Examples, IBM Turns Watson loose on Cancer, Happy Dad’s Create Happy Homes
As a Christian business leader, you want to accelerate your growth, profit, and impact in the marketplace (and build a better life!). Our goal is to bring you the best tips, tools, and techniques to do just that! Let’s get started! By the way, if you enjoy getting this email every week please forward it to a friend and encourage them to subscribe! Business Examples of Great Career Pages I hope we have convinced you that you need a great career page to keep the top of your talent funnel filled and to have an opportunity to stay in touch with past applicants. Last week we gave you five must have’s for a great career page (invitation from the boss, employee testimonials, culture highlights, mobile friendly and an opportunity to stay in touch). We also highlighted a couple of great career pages. This week, we want to look at some more great career pages so you will have plenty of examples to discuss with your People department and your web developer. We’ll repost the two pages we posted last week so you can have all the examples in one place. - Deloitte Netherlands – We looked at this one last week and you will need to let Google translate it if you want to read the details. But, even with the language barrier, you can get a great feel for how they utilize employee “ambassadors” to allow applicants to get in touch with someone inside the organization to learn more. Great use of video as well.
- Zappos – Always known for their culture, Zappos does a great job of highlighting the culture characteristics that they look for. They partner up with the recruiting tool Jobvite for their recruiting, but have not lost any of the Zappos culture in the process.
- ITV – The British TV network does an excellent job of getting very social with their recruiting. On the Connect With Us tab you can see how your LinkedIn connections match up with ITV and follow them via all the major social channels. They are doing a great job of understanding that today’s job applicants don’t accept everything they read at face value. They investigate to figure it out on their own. Making recruiting social allows your recruits to do their own digging and hopefully find someone they know who already works with you and loves the place!
- Google – as expected, just kind of amazing. Most of us cannot afford to spend like Google does (they apparently spend $50M yearly on recruiters alone!), but we can borrow some of their best stuff. Their page is applicant focused and even offers resume tips. Understanding the effort and money they put into recruiting also helps us realize why it is so difficult to find great talent. Great companies with benefits that most of us cannot afford to pay are working hard to attract the best talent.
- HIreVue – They don’t sugarcoat it. The header states “Join HireVue and Work With the Greatest Company in the World.” Are you building the greatest company in the world and willing to state it? They’ve got sections on their core values, why you should work with them and their stories and culture.
- Chick-fil-a – “Give More. Grow More. Be More.” is the slogan that headlines CFA’s career page. They have great stories from people at all levels of the organization, dedicated areas based on the type of position you are looking for and a day in the life video showing a young mom bringing both of her children to work with her to use the on-site childcare facilities. A lot of us cannot offer the amenities that CFA has, but make sure you highlight the many benefits that you do have.
OK. That is probably plenty of examples of great career sites for you to visit and grab ideas from. Now it is your turn to create a great career page for your company so you can attract more great talent! |
Health! IBM Turns Super Computer on Cancer Only 25% of cancer patients benefit from the first drug they are offered in treatment. IBM is turning Watson (their artificial intelligence system) on the fight against cancer to change that statistic. They have partnered with over 20 leading cancer institutions to train Watson on how to fight cancer. Watson is learning to analyze the genomics of cancer cells and analyzing the thousands of cancer studies from the past and in progress today. Keeping up with all of the studies and data is close to impossible for physicians. That is where Watson can play the game at a higher level. In a recent trial, Watson able to suggest treatment options that were missed by top notch cancer physicians in 30% of the cases. Watson was able to do this because it could be up to date with the most recent studies and never forget any of them. Great 60 Minutes piece on the progress Watson is making. The video starts with Watson’s Jeopardy win and moves on to the cancer story around minute 5. The medical part ends at 15 minutes, but if you are interested in artificial intelligence, keep watching. Fascinating stuff. Click below to watch. Life, Fun, Whatever! Happy Daddy, Happy Home The Desiring God blog just produced another great article from David Mathis’ interview with Ajith Fernando, author of “The Family Life of a Christian Leader.” This time, the focus of their discussion was on fatherhood. Lots of great nuggets in the article. Here a few things that fathers must do create a happy home: - Delight in Your Children – Just as God delighted in his son, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” our children are wired to hear from their fathers that they are pleased with them. Rarely will a family’s joy level exceed the father’s. But, joy does not always come easily for fathers. We are often carrying the weight of our worries and our failings that we no longer have to carry.
- Enjoy our Father’s Delight – We cannot truly express an emotion that we are not experiencing. We must first learn to enjoy God’s delight in us before we are able to truly delight in our children. We all feel inadequate and try to earn God’s approval, but it has already been won. He sees us now perfect and holy through Jesus’ sacrifice. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy(Hebrews 10:14). As we get better at resting in God’s grace, we will be much better at giving grace to our children.
- Joy is Not Complete if Not Expressed – The act of enjoying something is never fully complete until you express that joy. Whether it be your love for your spouse or some amazing new experience that you must tell all of your friends about, expression completes joy. Fathers are often the most silent of the family. We must train ourselves to express the joy that we have in our children.
- Apologize – Thank goodness our identity is not in performance, but in grace. Just as we repent when we fall short with God, we must ask for forgiveness from our family when we miss it with them. A father humbling himself to apologize is the most important thing we can do to mend a strained relationship with a child.
Lots of great information from a wise man. Check out the full article by clicking on Ajith’s photo below. |
