Hey reader, welcome to our new Newsletter!
I hope your week is off to a great start. We’ve changed our approach to the Fowler & Company newsletter and I think you are going to like it. Instead of only providing you content that we create at Fowler & Company we are now going to send you the best of what we are reading from around the digital world – each and every week.
My goal is to bring you, the Christian business leader, the best tips, tools and techniques to help you build excellent businesses and an amazing life.
We’ll generally be bringing you the best on what we find related to business, health, and just life in general, so scroll through to whatever you find interesting.
As always, please let me know what you think about this new format and anything we can do to make it more useful to you. You can reach me at cfowler@valuesdrivenresults.com.
One last thing (can’t believe I almost forgot this!), you may notice a focus on parenting in the Life section. That is because the Fowler Clan is expanding once again! The doctors are saying we are due in early September! God is so good!
Business
Only 8% of Leaders Are Good at Both Strategy and Execution but those leaders that are good at either strategy or execution are more than likely to be good at both – according to new research coming out in the book “Strategy That Works.” This strengthens my argument that great strategy without great execution is worthless – and vice versa.
The author’s identify five acts of unconventional leadership that help companies execute strategy. They are: Commit to an Identity, Translate Strategy into Every Day, Put Your Culture to Work, Cut Costs to Grow Stronger, and Shape the Future. This is great evidence that Culture (Core Values and Core Purpose), Accountability and an Inspiring Vision are keys to great leadership – and strategy execution requires great leadership – in fact they could be considered one and the same. Great HBR article here.
What is Strategy? Boy, there are a lot of opinions on this and I believe that most people make it sound harder than it is just to make themselves look smarter. Here is a simple look at what makes great strategy. Click here for the article.
Health
God put each of us here for a purpose and accomplishing most of our purposes will require our bodies operating well. Why do we put our health at the bottom of the list when our health is the only vehicle we have to accomplish our goals?? This great article showcases 5 Natural Arthritis Treatments. Thinking you are too young to care for your joints is just silly. Prevention is a way better plan!
Life, Fun, Whatever!
9 Dads Who Dominate Parenting – Just hilarious 3 minute YouTube clip of Dad’s making it happen. I have got to figure out that vacuum pony tail trick! Click the link at the front of the paragraph to watch.
3 Disciplines for Teaching Grace to Kids – Grace not performance, must be the message to our kids. We need to help our kids see God’s free gift of grace in how we parent and love our children. Here are the 3 Disciplines: Remember – Help your kids recount the significant events in their life and show them where God’s grace was evident in each. Be Vulnerable – Kids run away from the church when they are expected to be perfect. Show your mistakes to your kids, practice grace and help them understand that sanctification is a process! Lean Into Their Passions – Don’t be scared about baseball or Minnie Mouse becoming an idol. Get excited about your kids passions with them and help them see God’s gifts and purpose in their passions.
